Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: 6 May 2026 · Effective: 6 May 2026

Why this policy exists: Sustainability reporting is regulated and has real consequences for your business and the environment. Misrepresenting emissions data - deliberately or through negligence - can expose your company to regulatory action, legal liability, and serious reputational damage. We take data integrity seriously.

1. Scope of This Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") applies to all users of Tao Climate Scope, including subscribers, account administrators, invited users, and any individual accessing or entering data through the platform. It forms part of the Terms of Service.

By using Scope, you agree to this AUP. Violations may result in suspension or termination of your account.

2. Data Integrity Requirements

Scope is a sustainability reporting platform. The accuracy and integrity of data you enter is your responsibility. You must:

3. Prohibited Activities

The following activities are strictly prohibited on the Scope platform:

Fraudulent sustainability claims. Entering data you know to be false with the intent to mislead investors, customers, regulators, or the public about your company's environmental performance.
Greenwashing via the public dashboard. Publishing a customer-facing sustainability dashboard that contains materially misleading information about your CO2 emissions, environmental commitments, or progress toward sustainability targets. This includes omitting material data to create a misleadingly positive impression.
Misrepresentation of Scope outputs as verified reports. Presenting reports generated by Scope as independently audited, verified, or certified sustainability reports without having obtained such verification from a third-party auditor.
Regulatory non-disclosure. Using Scope to fulfil a mandatory regulatory reporting requirement (e.g., CSRD/ESRS) without ensuring the report meets the applicable regulatory standard, including third-party assurance where required.
Competitive scraping. Accessing the platform through automated means to extract data, benchmark proprietary methodologies, or reverse-engineer the platform for competitive purposes.
Unauthorised access. Accessing accounts, data, or features you are not authorised to use. Attempting to bypass authentication, session management, or access controls.
Platform abuse. Conducting denial-of-service attacks, uploading malicious code, exploiting bugs to gain unauthorised privileges, or otherwise intentionally disrupting the platform for other users.
Resale without authorisation. Reselling, sublicensing, or providing paid access to the Service to third parties without explicit written consent from Tao Climate.

4. Public Dashboard Responsibilities

If you enable the optional public-facing sustainability dashboard, you take on additional responsibilities as the publisher of that information:

5. Tao Climate's Right to Act on Violations

Tao Climate reserves the right to:

Before taking action, we will ordinarily notify you and give you an opportunity to respond, unless the urgency of the situation or the nature of the breach makes this impractical.

6. Reporting Concerns

If you believe another user is misusing the platform - including publishing false sustainability data - please contact us at support@taoclimate.com with details. We treat all reports confidentially.

7. Consequences of Violation

Violations of this AUP may result in:

8. Changes to This Policy
